Werner Syndrome

Symptoms:
Wrinkling and sagging of the face, Decreasing muscle mass, Thin skin and loss of fat under the skin, Graying hair and hair loss, A high-pitched voice Along with the physical appearance of aging, body organs and systems also begin to age.
Produces Diseases such as:
Cataracts (cloudy spots on the lens of the eye), Osteoporosis (weakened bones), Diabetes (type 2), Rare cancers, Heart and artery disease, Premature menopause in females.
Inherited:
Inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. Found on cheomosome 8 and on the WRN gene.
The parents of an individual with Werner syndrome each carry one copy of the mutated gene, but they typically do not show signs and symptoms of the condition.
Evident:
Certain characteristic findings are present beginning during adolescence and early adulthood.
Parent test:

Generations in pedigrees provides a means of carrier detection.
